ABOUT US: Founded in 1981, Isles is a nationally recognized nonprofit
community development and environmental organization with the mission to foster
more self-reliant families in healthy, sustainable communities. Each year, Isles reaches thousands of central
New Jersey residents with opportunities for at-risk youth job training,
affordable housing development, financial literacy training, homeownership
counseling, community gardening, environmental health and education, community
organizing, and regional planning.

100 employees, plus a corps of volunteers and an engaged Board of
Directors.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Isles seeks individuals who are passionate about environmental justice and community development to serve as Climate Corps Members for a year long term. In this position, you will be a part of the Trenton Climate Corps (TCC), and complete service projects both inside and outside. TCC is a supportive program for training and employing Trenton community members in climate resilience and green infrastructure skills, with the goal of creating a rich network of environmental stewards with the power and skills to improve Trenton for current and future generations. The projects for the yearlong service term require the ability to work independently, problem solve, and evaluate situations and adjust accordingly. Projects outside require physical labor and are generally related to urban agriculture or urban forestry. Indoor projects require leadership and organization and are generally related to preparing projects/events, writing assignments, and basic budgeting.
WHO WILL BE SUCCESSFUL:
Successful candidates will have the chance to complete certifications, have access to all Isles financial and personal development programs, and learn different skills in the many sustainability related fields. With support from Climate Corps staff, the yearlong leadership positions support the larger Climate Corps crew while also leading independent service projects/events. This position will be full-time, year-round, with program development and implementation responsibilities.
We seek a collaborative and supportive candidate who has a proven track record of working with and motivating urban youth, and who is well connected in the Trenton community. Qualified candidates will have the opportunity to join a dynamic and highly accomplished team at one of the most innovative and successful nonprofit organizations in the region. The position requires strong organizational and leadership skills, and exceptional skill at motivating youth. .
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Developing and implementing climate resilience/green infrastructure projects such as tree planting, rain gardens, water catchment projects, and native/pollinator plantings
Defining project goals, assigning project work tasks, daily oversight of project participants, and reporting on project metrics
Demonstrating behaviors in concert with Isles’ mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures

POSITION DETAILS:
Service members receive a living allowance for the service year paid in twice monthly installments and are eligible for an education award to repay qualified student loans and to pay current educational expenses at eligible institutions of higher education and training programs. Service members are also eligible for health coverage.
