Position SummaryThe Marketing Coordinator is responsible for coordinating marketing campaigns, promotions, and digital communications that enhance Substance’s visibility, reputation, and sales performance. This role balances creativity with analytics and operations integration, ensuring that activities are aligned and executed with business goals.

Key areas of focus include internal marketing (staff education, customer awareness, digital campaigns), external marketing (advertising, events, promotions, PR), content and webpage creation for SEO, social media management. The Marketing Coordinator plays a vital role in ensuring that both internal teams and customers are connected to Substance’s brand, its suppliers and their products, and our community ethos.

Key Responsibilities

1. Vendor Relations & Promotion

  • Facilitate promotions end-to-end, including creation, execution, tracking, reporting. Communicate with relevant stakeholders. 

  • Coordinate vendor co-marketing initiatives, staff training sessions, customer appreciations days, events, contests, and community outreach.

  • Research, propose and coordinate co-op advertising campaigns (billboard, print, digital, event). 

  • Collaborate with Substance and suppliers on  seasonal marketing calendars to drive staff engagement and product sales.

2. Marketing Campaigns & Content

  • Develop, schedule, and execute multi-channel marketing campaigns (email, social, digital, in-store).

  • Create marketing materials, including brochures, newsletters, signage, social media posts, and press releases.

  • Draft messaging for internal audiences to ensure consistent communication around promotions and campaigns.

  • Research and update media contact lists to support PR efforts. Draft & publish press releases.

3. Digital Marketing & SEO

  • Update and maintain the Substance website, including store location and supplier pages. Update eCom pages in concert with promotions and campaigns. 

  • Implement SEO best practices, backlink outreach, and keyword optimization to drive online visibility.

  • Optimize presence on third-party platforms (Google Business, Yelp, Indeed, forums).

  • Monitor online brand mentions, customer feedback, and respond to engagement as directed.

  • Use AI tools and a digital library to produce creative assets (graphics, signage, digital ads, promotional images).

4. Analysis & Continuous Improvement

  • Track and analyze campaign performance, sales data, and marketing KPIs to measure effectiveness.

  • Report results and insights to leadership, recommending improvements to strengthen ROI and engagement.

  • Research industry trends, customer behavior, and competitor strategies to inform Substance’s marketing approach.

  • Propose new marketing campaigns, tools, or partnerships to continuously improve outcomes.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or a related field.

  • Experience: 1–2 years in marketing or a related field is preferred, with hands-on experience in digital marketing, social media, or event planning.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for creating compelling marketing content and collaborating with team members.

  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and multitasking abilities to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze data and market trends to inform marketing strategies and improve campaign performance.

  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with SEO, CMS, CRM, POS software and analytics.

Special Demands

  • Work may be performed in an office or home office environment. Remote work is possible.

  • Requires frequent use of a computer, keyboard, mouse, and telephone/mobile device for calls, text messaging, and digital communication.

  • Sedentary work with repetitive hand and wrist motions; exertion of up to 5 pounds occasionally and negligible weight frequently or constantly for handling equipment (e.g., laptop, phone).

  • Close visual acuity required for activities such as data analysis, transcribing, reading, and extensive computer use.

  • Ability to work flexible hours to support events, promotions, and sales initiatives.
