Position Summary

The Production Associate supports Substance’s marketing execution with a hands-on focus on visual content production, social media publishing, and vendor promotion coordination. This is an entry-level role designed for a highly creative, detail-oriented contributor who can produce consistent, on-brand assets quickly and reliably across digital and in-store channels.

The Associate builds content assets using established brand libraries and templates, and uses AI-enabled tools to accelerate copy and creative development for web and social posts, and email newsletters. This role functions similarly to a production artist—adapting existing creative, generating new imagery, preparing files for digital, and programming campaign rollouts. The Associate will also reinvigorate inactive social media accounts and manage content posts on new social media platforms

The Production Associate reports directly to the Production Director. The Associate coordinates closely with the Procurement Team to support supplier-driven in-store promotions. The Associate works dotted-line with the Data Analyst and Systems Lead to ensure campaign reporting and publishing workflows are executed and shared with relevant stakeholders

Key Responsibilities

Visual Content Creation and Production Support

  • Produce on-brand creative assets using templates and the graphic design library (e.g., signage, promo tiles, menu graphics, vendor feature posts, email graphics).

  • Adapt creative across formats and sizes (in-store print, web, social, email) with strong file hygiene and naming conventions.

  • Create light-motion assets (short-form video edits, animated story elements) when needed.

  • Maintain and organize digital asset libraries (versioning, source files, exports, and usage notes).

Vendor Coordination and Promotional Execution Support

  • Assist with vendor promotions end-to-end: gathering inputs, collecting assets, coordinating timelines, and preparing deliverables.

  • Support vendor co-marketing initiatives including staff training communications, customer appreciation days, events, contests, and community outreach.

  • Coordinate promotional deliverables with internal stakeholders (stores, purchasing, inventory, operations) to ensure correct dates, pricing, and messaging alignment.

 AI-Assisted Copy and Content Development

  • Use approved AI tools to generate and refine on-brand copy for social posts, blog drafts, and email newsletters based on established tone, campaign goals, and compliance constraints.

  • Use creative files in the content library to produce updated digital images and posters, maintaining brand continuity while revising event dates, times, locations, and featured suppliers (including correct logo usage).

  • Convert existing policies, SOPs, and training materials into AI avatar-led videos to improve clarity, consistency, and engagement.

  • Maintain prompt patterns and reusable structures to improve speed and consistency over time.

Website and CMS Support

  • Support basic website updates as directed (store/location pages, blog uploads, landing page edits), preferably in WordPress or other CMS tools.

  • Ensure formatting, image compression, links, and metadata are clean and consistent.

  • Coordinate with the Web Developer for technical publishing requirements and for tracking/tagging needs.

Social Media Management and Publishing

  • Manage assigned Substance social media accounts across core platforms (e.g., Instagram, Facebook, Google Business Profile, Reddit, X and others as directed).

  • Build and maintain a posting cadence using a content calendar, scheduling tools, and standardized workflows.

  • Draft captions, hashtags, and post variations; create platform-appropriate formats (stories, reels, carousels, static posts).

  • Follow established compliance rules for regulated cannabis production; route higher-risk content for review and maintain posting records as required.

Performance Tracking Support

  • Assist in compiling basic performance snapshots (post performance, engagement metrics, email metrics) using platform analytics and internal dashboards.

  • Provide structured notes on what worked, what did not, and recommended iterations based on results.

  • Monitor comments and messages and respond/escalate per guidelines to maintain tone, professionalism, and brand consistency.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in visual communications, product design, digital media, marketing, or other creative arts. A portfolio demonstrating design, content creation, or social media work.

Technical Skills: Adobe Creative Suite. Figma (or equivalent web/design tool). AI image and video generation tools. Familiarity with social media scheduling/publishing tools.

Special Demands

  • Work may be performed in a business office or home office environment.

  • Requires frequent use of a computer, keyboard, mouse, and telephone/mobile device for calls, text messaging, and digital communication.
