SUMMARY
The Summer Experiential Education Facilitator (Summer EEF) is responsible for the safe and effective implementation of Princeton-Blairstown Center’s (PBC) adventure-based experiential and environmental education curriculum delivered at the Blairstown Campus and partner locations in Newark and Trenton, New Jersey. The Summer Experiential Education Facilitator utilizes a youth development model that actively engages participants and supports them in achieving individual and group goals and helps students increase their social emotional learning (SEL) and problem-solving skills. The Summer EEF is also responsible for delivering an interdisciplinary STEM and/or Literacy curriculum.

MAJOR DUTIES

  • Develop, facilitate, and debrief adventure based/experiential education curriculum including adventure course, hiking, canoeing/kayaking, swimming, arts and crafts, and restoration programming designed to help students develop social-emotional skills that include learning to communicate cooperatively, problem solve, and work together to achieve common goals.
  • Develop and instruct STEM and/or Literacy academic lessons during specified blocks on assigned programming days.
  • Design a learning sequence using PBC curriculum, create and/or deliver lesson plans, and develop new program activities appropriate to the participant population.
  • Ensure the safety of all participants at all times.
  • Maintain a friendly, cooperative, and professional relationship with fellow staff, chaperones, and partner organization stakeholders.
  • Assist with program logistics and administrative duties.
  • Assist with housekeeping and facility upkeep.
  • Participate in job-related training and staff meetings.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external individuals to ensure the successful functioning of the Blairstown Campus and PBC programs.
  • Demonstrate a professional demeanor which is reflective of the values and standards of the Princeton-Blairstown Center in all formal and informal contacts with the organization’s constituencies, including consistent adherence to PBC electronic device policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Some college, preferably in Education, Psychology, Sociology, Environmental Science, Outdoor Education, Leadership, or other related fields.
  • Documented experience working with young adults, individually and in groups.
  • Documented training and experience, or willingness to lead and/or facilitate low ropes/adventure courses, canoeing, and other outdoor recreation activities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Outstanding customer service, group facilitation, and logistical planning skills.
  • First Aid and CPR preferred but will be given during staff training if necessary.
  • Lifeguard certification preferred
  • Experience living and/or working with people from diverse cultures or backgrounds preferred.
  • Experience or willingness to live and/or work in both rural and urban, outdoor settings with limited modern comforts and conveniences.
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, professionalism, a commitment to lead by example, and dedication to the mission of PBC.
  • Willingness to eat a variety of food, or supplement provided meals with food acquired independently to meet dietary needs.
  • Able to work well with a team of others and on a one-to-one basis.
  • Able to work long hours, including evening and late-night programs, in high heat, humidity, and other stressful conditions.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 40 plus pounds for extended periods at a time while backpacking.

      Salary $3,600 gross, before taxes (plus room, board and training  - valued at approximately $340/week). 


All candidates selected for this program are required to show proof of completed COVID-19 vaccination series.  You must arrive on June 19th - training starts promptly at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, June 20th.

The Princeton-Blairstown Center will run summer programming unless forced to cancel by State or local mandates.
